Hello Guys!!
We are a web hosting startup and we are operating from our home itself. I have been battling with my team on this topic from last one month.
Our Business is at an initial stage and I know it will grow rapidly and with that, we need to increase manpower also.
But now at the initial stage is it necessary to have the physical location of our web hosting business.
Please give your suggestions.

  • When it comes to SEO, it’s recommendable that you keep your servers close.
Google ranks on loads of different factors. The geo-IP location of your server is one of them, but it’s certainly not the most important one.
For clients who have locally oriented businesses, it’s quite logical to choose servers in their own country to host their websites.

Since you are starting web hosting business, you should focus on different factors.

Geographical location of your server matters only in a straightforward sense. It has effect only on the number of hoops that it takes for some piece of data to move around. The fewer hoops it uses, the faster your information will move around.

    hi,

Having physical office is not indeed important. But if you are targeting local area then the chances are that customers may consider visiting the office to discuss about their requirement/issues.

    Its depends,
If you are targeting any particular area then it affects otherwise your service and support is important for customers nothing else

It only matters if ping is an issue for the customer. Possibly may be an issue if they want to avoid a certain tax or maybe what they are doing is illegal in certain locations. But overall it really doesn't matter for most web hosting customers.

Quoting Google's John Mueller in response to the question of SEO and server location:

"For search, specifically for geotargeting, the server's location plays a very small role, in many cases it's irrelevant. If you use a ccTLD or a gTLD together with Webmaster Tools, then we'll mainly use the geotargeting from there, regardless of where your server is located. You definitely don't need to host your website in any specific geographic location -- use what works best for you, and give us that information via a ccTLD or Webmaster Tools."

Q: Is the server location important for geotargeting?

If you can use one of the other means to set geotargeting (ccTLD or Webmaster Tools’ geotargeting tool), you don’t need worry about the server’s location. We do, however, recommend making sure that your website is hosted in a way that will give your users fast access to it (which is often done by choosing hosting near your users).

  • Yes,

It make it more professional to manage your hosting business and client with more care if your servers are hosted in a Datacenter.
But you can target specific niche of client as per location. Many of your client might be looking for a location. But its hard to manage things at home for a hosting business.
